What are the Responsibilities of School Nurses?
Certified school nurses (CSNs) and registered nurses (RNs) provide medical care and education to students and assist the district staff in providing health education curriculum when requested by administration or necessary due to student’s medical needs. When necessary, the nurses provide consultation to parents and will collaborate with a family’s doctors and other medical personnel in order to develop a comprehensive health plan for students. The nurses insure that classroom staff is familiar with, and trained in, each student’s health plan. The nurses will work with the school team to update health plans as needed.
Nurses are responsible for insuring that all federal and state mandates are observed and that student health records comply with federal and state laws.
